A new taste of music is going to conquer the nation. Say no more to the endless productions of various renditions of same love songs. Delve your soul into the unexplored rhythms and beats of the world. Let your body jive into the music of your own. This for sure, will make you want to fall in love once more as the Star Records released an album last January, titled Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs.
The Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs is an album compilation of this year’s 12 song finalists from the return of the country’s premiere songwriting competition, Himig Handog. Its musical grand finale and awards night was held at SM Mall of Asia Arena last February 24 and telecasted by ABS-CBN.
With the set of different composers coming from various parts of the Philippines, showcasing their masterpiece to be the next OPM classics and interpretations by 12 of today’s finest local recording artists comes a set of original tracks that will make you more proud as a Filipino. Each of which underwent series of deliberation and painstakingly judged and selected by a panel of respected music personalities. From pop to country music to ballad, all of its themes were centered about different faces of love.
One of the tracks which has touched my heart were Aiza Seguerra’s Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa- Himig Handog 2013 Best Song, Juris Fernandez’ Hanggang Wakas and Marion Aunor’s If You Ever Changed Your Mind. While I was listening to these songs, I can’t help but feel that the song’s lyrics and melody is talking to me as if they want me to bring into the story of the song. The artists who performed the songs gave justice to what they want to bring to the listeners. They sang it not just for the sake of singing but they sang it with their hearts out- feeling every bits of emotions, lyrics, rhythms, and melodies of it.
On the other hand, Toni Gonzaga’s Kahit Na makes my body want to jive with the beat of the song. It will make you dance naturally like you cannot control it. Daniel Padilla’s Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat, though lyrics are simple and rhythms were repeating, it has indeed a unique charm and catch that if you heard it once, you’ll suddenly find yourself chanting it nonstop.
The other tracks in the album were Alaala by Yeng Constantino, Pwede Bang Ako na Lang Ulit by Bugoy Drilon, One Day by Angeline Quinto, Sana’y Magbalik by Jovit Baldivino, Scared to Death by KZ Tandingan, This Song’s for You by Erik Santos and Tamang Panahon by Wynn Andrada. These also come with official music videos produced by different universities.
The composers were Joven Tan of Malabon (Anong Nangyari sa Ating Dalawa), Ma. Fe Menchenette Tianga and company from Iloilo (Alaala), Marion Aunor of Makati (If You Ever Changed Your Mind), Wynn Andrada (Tamang Panahon), Soc Villanueva from Australia (Hanggang Wakas), Julius James de Belen of Quezon City (Kahit Na), Jungee Marcelo (Nasa Iyo na ang Lahat), Agatha Morallos of Baguio (One Day), Jeffrey Cira of Cavite (Pwede Bang Ako na lang Ulit), Alman Alferez of Caloocan (Sana’y Magbalik), Domingo Cubelo of Bohol (Scared to Death), and Jude Gitamondoc of Cebu (This Song’s for You).
Overall, the Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs is an exceptional album you shouldn’t miss. It caters not only to those people who have and had been in love and feel loved but also to those who want to experience it without being in a relationship. Young or old can definitely relate to these songs and feel young again. So what are you waiting for? Hurry up and experience the feeling of love.
